This is the Jewish Synagogue in the Jewish sector of Budapest. Its one of the largest synagogues in eastern europe.
I love this weeping willow. Every one of the leaves on the tree has the name of someone who died in the jewish ghetto in Budapest. If you read about this ghetto - it was one of the worst ghetto as far as they cleared it out so quickly by sending people to concentration camps.
This is down by the Parliament on the Danube. There are all these sculptures of shoes representing the huge execution of Jews that took place in the 1950s between the Nazis leaving and the take over of communism. They literally just lined them up on the bank of the Danube in front of Parliament and shot them into the river. It was supposed to be all political related, but there were women and children there as well. And so concludes this episode of Jewish Budapest.... We'll cover a different religion next time! :)
