Banned Again!

I got back into town on Wednesday and had office meetings but figured Id have time to set up my NEW cube desk!  No such luck!  I came in and found a cube and cabinets but NO desk!  Apparently they have to get permits to wire the cubes for electric and for IT stuff so they have to wait until Friday.  BUT - Im already happier!  SO much bigger and nicer than what I had before as my stuff from 17 years was hiding in closets and drawers all over the building and can now be reunited back in my space.  And I'm going from, what I liked to call my wedge, to an actual work space!  Yay!

So I'm stuck in my alternate universe which I actually kind of like because it means I'm home:)

Since I can't set things up this week - who knows when Ill be able to get to it as I'm gone for tomorrow and all next week.  I guess it's a reason to look forward to going into the office!

Wednesday - Just ... Wednesday...

Worked in Omaha Tuesday and then got back in time to do dinner with Brittany downtown in the funky downtown section of Kansas City.

And basically we went home and went to bed... I love that Britt is just as old as I am...:)

And red sky in morning?  I don't know is it red or pink... Either way... Ill be boarding my plane home soon to get to a new desk and an afternoon meeting.

Happy Wednesday!  It's Wednesday already!!!!

And one more thing...
Seriously the best coffee... And in OMAHA!  Good things can come from anywhere!!!!

ThunderShirt!

Introducing the thing that may save all of us - if it really does what's promised.  Baileys brand new Thundershirt!  Storms, fireworks, cars backfiring... These are all noises that send Bailey into panic mode where she chews holes in carpet, gnaws on walls and tries to literally climb inside any person who happens to be near her.  Sleep overs are dreaded if the sky starts darkening.

But now - ThunderShirt is here and were all hoping that it works for her otherwise...well, I think my otherwise is that Ill be much more studious about checking the weather before I say yes to Bailey-sitting!

And in other weekend news...
Another trip to Ravinia for a surprise birthday party for good old Kim!  Joshua Bell was playing and we had a group of us there to enjoy the music and the company.  I even got 4 free lawn tickets for future performances as they were giving them out as a thank you from Ravinia.  Yay!  I get to go at least two more times!  I know my friend Lauren is coming from Philly so were grabbing another friend Rhonda and were going to do the lawn the day she comes in.  I believe it's Don Giovanni.  And then the next one I know for sure I want to do is YoYo Ma on August 21st.  It's been a great Ravinia summer so far!

This is the way to party at Ravinia!:)

And do not go to Ravinia and sit like this - its very awkward for the people you're sitting and staring at even though you might find it quite amusing....:)

Two life lessons from Ravinia!
And the rest you'll have to figure out yourselves!

And now - TNMC in lovely downtown Omaha calls.  Beautiful Tuesday to be here...I should add - I'm actually excited to stop at my favorite cofffe place on the way out so - Yay!

I Was Banned

As mentioned, I've been in the office way too much lately!  I've actually been working on a big project reviewing all of our labels and lit so its been a needed office confinement, however, I still don't take to it!

But - I was actually forbidden by HR to come in on Thursday and Friday this week!  Honestly!  They're replacing our cute as a button desks with actually cubicles and so they're breaking everything down today and assembling tomorrow.  Needless to say, all of my desk on on boxes and so I'm working at home today.  But - since I was home mom asked me to take her to get her hair done.  Which - was fine with me as there's a lake right next to downtown area where she goes.  I grabbed all the proofs I'm going through and headed to the dock and here I sit!  It's one of the absolutely peaceful lakes for kayaking or SUPping or just sitting because there's no motorized boats on the lake - no noise, no crowds.

I can now get some sun AND some work done!  Or just some sun:)

I've Been Gathering Moss...

What is that saying about stones and moss.... I just know I've been sitting too long and my feet have been so restless.  I've had things to do in the office and with all the changes I've been trying to lay a little low.  But - wondrous day!  I have a meeting I'm required to go to!   I don't even care what it's for - it just means I have to finally get back on a plane and go to a different place.  Hallelujah!

What's even better - the place I have my meetings - Charleston!  So I'm actually flying into Greenville earlier in the week as  I do have some NC accounts I've been holding back on and I can get those done - as well as see all the family!  Actually I don't even know if Ill have time to see them all now but - I guess well find out!

All I know is ....
These will not be seeing this bland office carpet for a week!:). Yay yay yay!

I'm coming y'all!

Back To Non-Boring

This is beautiful for like - 15 minutes?  But after a while - ah!  Boredom sets in!  Actually, it was such beautiful weather that even corn fields (and soybean fields:(...) look beautiful under that big blue sky!  Perfect weather to drive with your windows down!

Highlight of the trip?!  I got to swing by St Louis to see good old Cathy!  One of the most awesome people I know!

Any friend that doesn't mind the world seeing this picture of them is stellar in my  book!  I love all my goofy friends -but I think I love the goofy that comes out of this one the most!

And having that face make my day last night, just made my Friday even better!

And now I'm back home for the weekend with nothing to do!  Except laundry and cleaning and maybe some weeding and walking the dog...

Welcome weekend!

Door Catch Up

I'm standing waiting for verifications to run through a washer that is not passing so this could take a while... Patience in the land of patients...  Seriously - I sell soap, soap used in washers maintained by mechanics who should know how to program their washers but yet - I am asked to literally write out for said maintainance person how the washers should be running as they're currently not programmed correctly... How does that work?  Thank goodness I've been around long enough to know everything from program names to cycle temperatures and factory settings.  That's just scary right?...

So as I stand and wait for other washers to fail or pass their verifications...

It's time for quick catch up from this last weekend.

I originated and asked about a camping weekend with Kim a while back, only to find out that she had been coming up with her own camping weekend plan.  So I intruded:). I actually had promised her she'd get the peace and quiet she so wanted but, because its with me, I think somewhere in her head she doubted it.  But she immediately replied yes - what a good friend!!!!

As mentioned - we left on Friday and the plan was Washington Island as I do love it there and if peace is to be found in Door County during the summer, its on the Island.  We camped Friday night and then leisurely did breakfast and I then told Kim I had to intro her to my new favorite spot on the Island (sadly it did not exist the summers we spent up there so long ago)  We got in the car and drove over to Red Cup Cafe.  Got coffee, a new bag for Kim and a new headband for me.  And then we just sat on the front porch getting our summer on!

See - even middle easterners are clamoring for the deliciousness of Red Cup!

Next door to the Red Cup is the bread company where, if you get there early enough, you get your choice of fresh, hot bread.  As the morning progresses, they start crossing the best breads off the white board:(. We got the thyme and olive loaf (which we actually never got a chance to eat but I brought it home and mom has been cutting away on it).

And then on the other side of Red Cup is the epitome of bliss - sigh - a wonderful bookstore.  It's just the thing to do while you've got coffee.  I've bought so many books there but I've never really talked to the owner as its usually been a little busier.  This time, Kim and I had a nice chat with Kathleen (in the picture below) bought some books, and were actually given some books!  Apparently bookstore owners are sent preview copies of books from publishing companies and asked to read them and then send their opinions.  They're complete bound books (the front book Im holding is one of them) and the only way you know it's not "real" is it says its only a preview copy and hasn't been edited and there may be changes made to the final version so don't sell it or quote it.  It's just another amazing reason to own a bookstore!

I finally had sat for long enough and I dragged Kim off to kayak.  Kim still needed some r and r but when the water calls!... So I decided to push off on my own and kayak across from Washington Island to Rock Island.  I'd never been to Rock Island and had always wanted to go but you have to take a ferry there so I just never had... Until I got my own "ferry":)

I don't even know how long it took me to get across to Rock, but I finally pulled my little yellow kayak up on shore and then meandered down to the ferry dock and park entry.

There's a huge building that they use as the park entrance.  Apparently there was a wealthy Chicago electrician named Chester Thorandsen who had bought Rock Island and had started building a resort/retreat there for his family and his employees.  It was never finished but the basic part of the "great hall" was and is still there as a tribute to Chester's Icelandic family roots.  The fireplace and the furniture all are odes to Iceland!

I walked around inside and outside for a bit and then I started to worry about Kim - and the trouble she was probably causing on the mainland...:)
So I jumped back in Yellow and furiously paddled back to check in on Firestarter!

And later I tried to rescue her from some very angry crocodiles!  Wait - that was a different trip....

But back to the Island and the peace of a lavender farm that never existed when we used to be regulars.  This barn was falling down for years and then one trip I come and it's a beautiful lavender farm and a dairy store.

And then the next trip there's another flourishing lavender farm!  And now it's a huge island business - lavender everywhere!

And lets say this is the reason I didn't post right away!:). One of the books I apparently accidentally picked up to buy hadnt actually even been released yet so I was forbidden by Kathleen to say anything about it - but I was so excited to start reading it!  It's the biography of Harper Lee and the book wasnt actually released until July 15th:).  But I had settled onto the shore of Schoolhouse Beach on July 12th and took this picture before I started reading - sadly knowing I couldn't post the picture for 2 more days!  I guess my time is up!

Dinner - by this time we were feeling lazy so.  I suggested that I buy dinner - also because I was wanting to go by the water and relive memories of Sailors Pub by Shipyard Marina where we spent many miserable - I mean - memorable hours as nannies back in the summers of ... Can't even remember.
There she is all pretty with a new coat of paint!  And a totally new inside and a new menu!  Melissa and I wouldn't have even been able to afford a coke here now let alone a meal.  AND they even have reservations and waiting lists!  WHAT!  Never!  It was all scruffy old sailors and frazzled boating help (aka Overbo and Behn) that ate here!

Now you can get all the local favorites..
Cocktails with Deaths Door vodka...

Whitefish.....

Fabulous cherry pie (actually the last piece that was ordered by a guy sitting at the bar with us and then when Kim told him it was my favorite he insisted that I take it because he comes back every weekend and can always get it - I wasn't foolish enough to not accept it:)

And then the morning of our departure, we broke out the bikes and peddled over to another favorite haunt of Mel and I... Findlays Holiday Inn.  We used to always get the oatmeal here because it was amazing ... I actually opted for something different but I should have just gotten it for old times sake... Oh well.  Everything had changed at Findlays - except the bathrooms:)

The dock Mel and I used to go to after breakfast to gather our sanity before returning to active duty on the Eagles Nest!

And then we boarded the ferry back to mainland Door County.

But had to show Kim a few of my favorite memory spots on the way out.  Lookout Point....

Sister Bay.....

Al Johnson's....

My FAVORITE!  Cave Point!

And then the rest of the trip was just boring stuff so...
The end

And now I'm going to check my washer verifications.....

First Ravinia Of The Season

Last night was my first Ravinia of the season!  Should have been the second but opted to skip that first one so I happily made sure this was a "happen"!

We went down and did dinner on the lawn and then enjoyed a performance by a Spanish guitarist (who happens to be from Montenegro) and a very passionate performance it was.  The whole time I kept thinking how much my brother Alan would have LOVED it!  We had a great spot right in front of the screen and speakers and so we really got to see him play.  And because of the brief rain before the performance, the park was not that crowded and was quite pleasant.

The sad remnants of an evening enjoyed!

And while we cleaned up Cristina (a Dominican Republic student working at Six Flags this summer) got to meet with her new crush!:). She's so besotted with Milos and I'm happy to have been the one to make the introduction!
