Like A Moose Caught In The Headlights...

And that was our weekend...

Kim, Cathy and I went away for the Labor Day weekend. We drove up to Munising, MI on Friday night - stopping in Green Bay to pick up Cathy from the airport. We borrowed my brother in law and sister's camper for the weekend.

It was all peachy keen until we stopped for dinner, got back in the car, meandered a little farther and then Alison checked her phone to discover - Munising was an hour ahead. And to boot - it started raining pretty hard. So, we wound up getting to our campground at around 2 in the morning and then, circling around the wooded, dimly marked campground looking for secluded space 34. When we found it, we all quickly crowded out in the pelting, cold rain to try and set the pop up camper up. We were going quite well until we started rolling up the top with the handcrank and discoverd that the back corner on the right side wasn't going up. We put it back down and back up and futzed and pushed and finally had to figure out a way to rig it to stay up. For the whole weekend we had to lift the top to open the door -- it was quite interesting when someone had to pee at 3 in the morning and wake up the others to help open the door... quite inconvenient.

We also had found that the electricity didn't work so we went to be in dark and coldness.

Then the first full day of vacation, we were hoping to do some roaming around the woods, but wound up trying to keep warm in the camper until later in the morning and then jumping in the heated car to rush over to a restaurant and get warmed up with hot coffee and blueberry pancakes. We spent the rest of the day wandering around "town" and finally went out to see the 20 foot waves ripping up the shores of Lake Superior.

At the end of our exciting day (aka at 4 pm) we slunk back to the campground.

Cathy put on her "sexy/helpless" voice and went over to the next campsite to ask for some help trying to figure out the power. Apparently there was one single guy that got sent over to help out the 3 helpless women. Amazingly, he did fix the electric and he accepted out thanks and then rejected our offers of getting him a thank you gift -- apparently all he really was wanting was some company at their evening trailer festivities (I think he was eyeing Cathy for that one...). We laughed and led him to believe that we might possibly be over for the evening campground party later that evening. Then we promptly closed and locked the door after him - oh wait - the door automatically locked because it couldn't be opened... Well, and the safety feeling came from the tough velcro that kept the sides of the canvas top anchored on the bottom... no ones gettin in there!

The Sunday was a quite nice day - except for the incident where Cathy almost fell in the river that was swiftly flowing into Lake Superior. But - she saved herself on a tree limb -- no harm no foul...

The last day was eventful tearing down as well and then we took off with a happy song to head back to deposit Cathy back at the Green Bay airport for a 6 pm flight on Monday. We were putsing through the U.P., listening to 80s and laughing when - BAM - the car steering just went out. Escanaba was our landing place - we called around - long story short, we got a tow truck driver. The whole town of Escanaba literally came out to get us back on the road again and by 7pm, we were back on Route 35 headed back home.

End of story - Cathy missed her Monday flight. I rebooked her on a flight on Tuesday out of Milwaukee and brought her home with me. Had to wake up at 5 am (after getting home around 2 because we had to drop the camper off at the camper store) to get Cathy to her 7:20a.m. flight.

And that, my friends, is why the moose (okay, Cathy, that was just a pun and not an actual statement) looks like she's caught in a headlight! What a weekend!

P.S. - I'll post pictures from the trip later -- it was GORGEOUS!

Doesn't sound all that fun. . . especially for the poor guy next door who thought he could win your hearts by just showing a little electrical knowledge - oh well. Looking forward to seeing the GORGEOUS pictures.!

Finally got caught up on the blog! So glad you got Cathy in all her moose-ness! We need to swap photos...once I figure out how to stop my iPhoto session. Who said Macs were problem free? It's acting far too much like my PC, except I know how to stop the d*** thing. Yes, I did just swear. Write that one down in your calendar. :) Have "fun" wherever you are today!
