The South Vs The North (Or the Midwest, Whatever You Chose To Call It)

You don't often have the chance to follow trucks with the name of "Hillbilly Pride" printed on it -- incidentally, its their chicken they're so proud of....
Thursday, I had to drive through the mountains to get to Athens, GA for work. The best way was to go through the Smoky Mountain National Park. It was extremely slow driving, but the views and the early morning sunshine bouncing off the moutains and the waterfalls was absolutely amazing!

This was at the Ranch that we stayed at and the youth group helped out with. They are right on the border of the Smoky Mountain National Park -- you just don't get views like this in the morning in Chicago!

Okay, its the beginning of April and, at home, our trees don't have leaves.... But, in the south -- they're in full bloom!

We do have drive thru Starbucks and pink/red, early morning skies... but there's nothing like driving through the mountains early early in the a.m. and seeing the sky streaked with colors like this!

AND -- we're home.... Sad....
So - here a few pictures that I didn't get (or that I did and I accidentally deleted)....

Wears Valley Road is the main road that runs up to the Ranch. Its a two lane road and its like 5 miles, all up hill, and the speed limit is only 35 mph the whole way. MISERY. And, because the Seiverville police force is pretty bored and they want to keep the law in check, every morning, between 7 and 9 a.m., they send Officer Jim Bob out in his police car. And what does Officer Jim Bob do, you ask. Well. There is one road that turns out of a couple houses onto the Wears Valley Road. Officer Jim Bob parks by this road and directs traffic. So - you're driving, driving - all of a sudden, you see police car lights spinning and Officer Jim Bob standing in the middle of his road up with his hand up, stopping traffic on Wears Valley Road. The purpose of this is, just in case a few of those houses end up sending out cars to turn onto Wears Valley Road, the traffic will be stopped and those cars will have a chance to turn. And there we sit, until Officer Jim Bob decides, that he'll let us go long enough to get a few cars past. I've sat there for almost 5 minutes before. Good job, Jim Bob!
Another snapshot that I have is a little blurry - okay, very blurry.... This is the Wal-Mart in Pigeon Forge. Big and bustling, it is where everyone goes to shop and meet and check out all the hot new fashion stuff! Theres a fairly large sport department in this Wal-Mart, and behind the cashier who is behind the counter, you might not be able to see it, but there is a HUGE case of shiny, big, fierce looking rifles.... We don't have those in our Wal-Mart....

Here's a blurb from the radio that I heard once while I was driving down the mountain. It was for a dentist, I believe it was him talking, but he was touting the fact that he was a pain free dentist and telling all about the drugs he gives and all. He wanted to make sure we understood how great his drug concoction and dentistry was so he said "Most payple have an 'I d'ownt ein member bayin' thar' spirit!" When was the last time you heard the word "spirit" used???? I think I'm gonna start now!
