Thursday - Little Ways That We Can See God

Thursday was a change of pace with going from universities for the past few days, to now rotating to the high school team with FEK.

This year I (with Tammie - Mark and Jayne went to the high school I used to go to) was at a new high school that I'd never been to before. We usually had to drive out a little from the city, but now we were in city center at Veres Paine. There were two high school teachers there that were welcoming us into their classes and today we did one class with 9th graders who spoke just a little English. Later we did two last year classes that spoke pretty well.

Our class time consisted of introductions for each of us telling who we are and where we're from and giving some facts about us. Then Ryan, who was our FEK staff member with us, played a game with the class and we had to help them figure out clues. Last, we all got into separate groups and just practiced speaking English for about 15 minutes.

They're having their big Friday night coffeehouse event tomorrow night, so we had to give out some invites and talk a little about the outreach too.

The classes we were in were all very very friendly and welcoming - sometimes, you can get a class that is not so friendly because they're so nervous.

This is the big gathering area in the center fo the school.
Because we had the one class and then had a 2 hour break, we went down Vaci Utca (the shopping street) to Anna Cafe, a little coffee shop. We had to try the studel in honor of Mark -- it wasn't the best that I ever had... Incidentally, Mark did get strudel at the covered market this afternoon and ate it while we were waiting for the tram to take us back to the hotel tonight... I think it was cheese filled tonight (which is like a sweet ricotta type cheese).
Tammie with a gypsy street musician... there's nothing like a great rendition of "Freebird" on the accordian (thats not what he was playing, I'm just saying...)!

This is Vaci Utca -- the walking street with all the shops... This is where you'll find all the women folk with their free time!
This is the front of Veres Paine high school.
One of the last year classes playing a guessing game with words.
This school actually had a lot of Mongolian students as well. Most of them were Mongolians who had come to Hungary when they were little so they spoke fluent Hungarian. I guess there is a large population of Mongolians that come to work in factories as seamstresses and tailors from what I gathered.
Vivienne is the girl sitting close to me. She had asked me after conversation and after Kyle had announced the FEK event -- "will you be there?" Pray that she does come!
This is the covered market - its an absolutely beautiful building!
After classes, we went down the street to the Burger King and we hung out there for students to come and speak to us in English. Bolacz was a last year student who had actually spent a year as an exchange student in the states... For my brother, Karl -- Bolacz was in Redmond, OR and LOVED it there. He said it wasn't that pretty but he liked going to Portland and seeing all the pretty areas and the people were very nice. He's wanting to go into medical university so he took AP classes for Biology and now he says he has all these useless English words for diseases and anatomy in his head and it probably won't help him with Hungarian medical school. He was a really really nice guy.

Tammie and I strolled over to Corvinus to see if we could find Mark and Jayne who were supposed to meet up with some students. I had thought that our little group could maybe do a Danube River cruise together. We took a shortcut through the covered market as it was closing.
Don't you love the selection of meats here -- the first we have a nice little piggie having a party...
Here we have some delicious and fresh cow tongue -- zoom in and notice the tastebuds on those puppies...
Oh - we didn't see this until too late, otherwise we would have run over, hit the driver on the head and made off with the truck for Mark....
It was an actual ICE truck! Can you see the top of the yellow van -- if you look really hard at the black and white pictures.. they're glasses with drinks and ICE CUBES! Ok - there are only like 2 in each glass,,, but they're there!
This is the old Corvinus university - its an absolutley beautiful building!
Good old Marx is still around....
This is the new Corvinus buidling... its beautiful in its own way as well.
Tammie calling home outside the Coffeeshop that is in the Corvinus entrance. We thought we'd find Mark and Jayne here, but didn't. So - we came up with a second plan of action and just figured we'd go to dinner by our selves. I was, however praying that we would miraculously run into Mark and Jayne somewhere in the huge city of Budapest. I really wanted to have a "TEAM" night.
As Tammie and I went strolling along the walk by the Danube, we were chatting and I was mentally sending up little prayers that we would see Mark and Jayne - we were a ways from Corvinus when, we looked down and MARK AND JAYNE! Its just funny how God answers those little prayers ... I really had wanted a team night.
Here's the neat thing. Two of the guys from the Raday dorm had responded to e-mail invite from Mark to meet again and talk more. They had met up with Mark and Jayne and had been talking to them for about 2 hours when we ran into them.
We ended up inviting them to dinner with us and we all went together.
I shot a couple buildings as we stood waiting for Mark. Their architecture here is so cool and so many of the buidlings are being modernized but are trying to keep some of the "old".
Here are two words you can learn that we learned this week - long story - Elado is "for sale" and Kiado is "for rent"... and if you say them with an Italian accent - they are COMPLETELY wrong!
The palace at sunset - isn't it beautiful!
Walking to the restaurant - we ate a place called Columbus that was on a boat on the Danube.
Hmmm... their wine menu is called Veritas....
Also strange - we come to Hungary -- Tammie is the only one who orders Hungarian food (duck with pickled pears or something) -- Jayne get Italian good and Mark gets Mexican.... (Oh - I got a paliscinta which is Hungarian! :))
Mark had a great conversation with the guys - both are Hungarian but are actually from Serbia (as that portion used to be Hungarian along with a lot of other countries.). They were very nice and asked a lot of questions. They're just two more people to pray for. We really enjoyed asking them questions about university and studies and all.
We decided to take off and try to catch a Danube River cruise so we walked down farther by the Chain Bridge. It was so beautiful with the bridge and the palace and all. This shot was from the boat we ate on through on of their big windows.

This is the Old Town district with Matyas Church....
The Royal Palace and the Chain Bridge
We walked down kind of far and didn't see a boat dock that was open so I decided to just stop someone walking by. There were three girls walking by and so I stopped them and asked if they spoke English. They said they did and we proceeded to have like a 10 minute conversation with them. The one girl I was speaking with was from Budapest and her friends were from Croatia. I ended up talking about FEK to Andrea and I got her e-mail address to send her the info where we meet on Friday night. Please pray that she'll come as I actually really loved talking to her as her English was superb!
Just another little God thing -- stop someone for directions and its leads into a conversation that might change their lives...
This is Corvinus as night -- the old buidling. Please rememer to pray for this university in Budapest and for all the workers who are taking the gospel there through friendships and through other ways.
Finally - back on tram 61 on the way back to Hotel Classic! Ahh!!! Jayne, Mark and Tammie have to be up and out by 7:15 as they're going outside the city 3 hours to the Contrast Exhibit to get the "vision". I'm out at 9 to go back to Veres Paine. Pray for them as they ride out and for me as I interact with the classrooms.
Goodnight from Budapest!
